"Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them." - Nathaniel Hawthorne

Words are powerful.  Beautiful.  Wonderful.  Dangerous.  Words can emote feelings, cause someone to be joyful or sad or frightened.

For me, writing has become a way not only to express myself but also to make a difference.  And yet I've learned, as illustrated in Hawthorne's quote, that though words can be woven together to create something beautiful (like a poem), they can also be manipulated.

Have you seen an example of how the written word prompted either positive or negative action?  Was this the author's intent?

Write on!
